Supernatural 7×21 Reading is Fundamental

First of all, I think we can all break out the champagne since Supernatural Season 8 is a real thing now. Yes, they have officially announced that the network picked up the series for another run! A source also mentions that the finale will have appearances from the new prophet as well as Bobby and Cass.

Now for this week’s details.

The episode was a really good one: Castiel is back for real and the angel-demon routine is going about as well. Not to forget the one-liners were plentiful and uproarious. Nerdy ‘advanced placement’ honors student Kevin gets hit by lightening because Sam and Dean break the concrete slab they got from Leviathans. Inside the slab is a tablet, inscribed with something no one can decipher. The effect of the slab-breaking also hits Castiel who is awake from his catatonic state.

Meg calls Dean and tells him about Castiel’s waking up and she also mentions that he isn’t exactly as he used to be and asks them to drive over. The guys cancel their trip to Rufus’ cabin and instead head over to where Castiel is placed. In the meantime, Kevin is going through a weird phase where his eyes light up and he finds himself hearing directions.

He gets redirected from his SAT exam to where Castiel is located so he can get his hands on the tablet. Castiel, who is acting strange to say the least, remembers some things but is also having constant psychotic delusions; not to forget he’s yet again feeling a certain affinity for Meg. Meg says she needs to know more but when Sam and Dean both don’t seem like they should trust her, she threatens to take Castiel away.

Castiel manages to tell them that the tablet is actually ‘the word of God’, not designed for angels but for prophets, the only ones that can read the language. When Kevin comes in the middle of this and tries to take the tablet away Sam manages to catch hold of him but he doesn’t let go of the tablet. Soon it is revealed that two angels were giving Kevin the directions and he is the new prophet.

Meg, Sam and Dean all fight the two angels when they get violent. One of them decides to side with Castiel but Meg has to kill the other one before she kills Cass. When Kevin tries to read, he barely manages the words “Leviathans”. Sam and Dean ask him to translate the text which is a time consuming process even for a prophet. So they decide to take Kevin away to Rufus’ cabin where he would be safe and where he can do the decryption.

Well, finally the guys have a way to ‘ice’ Leviathans – but the spell is very specific and calls for particular items, which is what they will be doing in the next episode apparently. Meg has already suggested that Crowley is still going to create problems and if the promo is any indication we are going to see Mark Shepherd and a very angry and powerful Alpha Vamp (back from when soulless Sam got Dean turned by a vampire in Season 6.)

Here is the promo and official description for the next episode.
